If you have a kid in your life and celebrate Christmas, do yourself a favor and get this right now.

A customer dropped it off yesterday for me because her kids thought it was creepy. It’s called Elf on the Shelf and it comes with a story book to go along with the elf. Essentially, the Elf goes to the North Pole every night to report to Santa everything naughty or nice the kid has done that day. And when he returns, he’s in a different part of the house. He does this every night until Christmas morning, when his magic disappears for a year and he stays in his box until the night of November 30th.

You get to name the elf (Liam named him Eddie Thompson, which is fantastic). Today he found him on top of the hearth above the fireplace. I think tonight Eddie Thompson, upon his return from N. Pole, will hide on the chandelier.

Bonusosity: The storybook tells the kids that if they touch the Elf, the magic is gone for the rest of the year and Santa won’t get any of his messages.

It’s pretty nice because I assume this will be Liam’s last year in believing in Santa… At least we have the nephew waiting in the wings.

I kinda hope if I have kids one day I’ll still have this. And when they flip to the back page, and see the info Liam filled in, they will see that Uncle Liam already named the Elf waybackwhen.

My new 15” MacBook Pro is in the mail!!! I.can.not.wait. It has been about two months since my computer passed on into the land of dead technology. R.I.P old MacBook. You got me through 5 years of design school. By the end you were missing some keys and were a little bent up, but you were still pretty fantastic.

Anyway, the new one is my Christmas gift from my very awesome and generous parents so I don’t get to use it until December 25. That’s ok though…what’s another month? yay yay yay yaya!

I miss Tumblr...

My computer has been out of commission for some time now and to put it plainly…it really sucks. I feel like I have lost a good friend which is sad but oh so true. Don’t lie. You would feel the same way.

Don’t answer your phone if you do not recognize the number

Start your days with a half a bagel and a tall glass of ice water. Then get your coffee.

Walk as frequently as possible, especially when you don’t feel like it.

Know who your enemies are.

After 23, being “that girl” at a party is not cute. Again, drink a glass of water and shut the fuck up.

Know your worth. Powerful women know what their rate is. If you lowball someone on your fee, they will pay you that fee AND think you are an idiot. Aim high. You can always readjust your rate later.

Debt will not disappear if you ignore it. It gets worse and worse and worse and then you can’t buy a house some day when you have the money. Contact the people you owe money to and explain your situation. They are surprisingly willing to work with you.

Cable television is a siphon on your life and your wallet.

Walk with purpose at all times. If you look confident, people won’t ask you questions. This sometimes requires you to drink before you walk.

Don’t be a nervous talker. Chitchat is for the playground.

Learn to read people’s faces. It’s invaluable in social situations and the work place.

You teach people how to treat you. I learned this from Oprah. If someone thinks they can push you around, react in a way that informs them they can’t.

Say “yes” as frequently as possible.

When in doubt, drink a glass of chardonnay over ice and take a quarter of a Xanax bar
